SMS Template Editor
The SMS Template Editor lets you save a reusable SMS body with merge tags. Saved templates can be loaded into any new SMS broadcast — the template's content is copied into the broadcast, so editing one doesn't change the other.
Settings vs Preview
The top bar toggles between two modes:
- Settings — write the message body and pick merge tags.
- Preview — see how it looks rendered as a phone-style chat bubble.
Message body
Plain text editor with merge-tag support. Click the merge-tag picker to insert variables like or any custom contact field. Merge tags are resolved per-recipient at send time.
Character / segment counter
The footer shows live counts:
- Characters — total length, computed against the longest possible merge-tag values
- Segments — how many SMS segments are required (GSM: 160 chars/segment, Unicode: 70 chars/segment)
A single emoji or curly-quote forces Unicode encoding for the entire message, cutting the per-segment limit from 160 to 70.
| Threshold | Behavior |
|---|---|
| < 160 chars | 1 segment, no warning |
| 160+ chars | yellow warning, 2+ segments |
| 1600+ chars | red warning — most carriers will reject |
Differences from inline broadcast content
- Templates are reusable across many broadcasts. The inline content tab is one-time per broadcast.
- Templates have no Recipients or Send button — they're not sent on their own.
- Templates have no per-template engagement stats — clicks are tracked at the broadcast level.
Saving and renaming
Click Save in the top bar to commit changes (no autosave). Click the pencil icon next to the template name to rename.
